Edward Y. Zavala possesses over thirty years of experience in healthcare. He
has extensive experience in transplant administration, organ procurement,
healthcare marketing, managed care relations and management of multi-organ
transplant Medicare Acquisition Cost Centers. He has held the positions of
Director of Marketing and Director of Physician Relations in a large healthcare
system. He has held the positions of Administrative Director of the University
of California, San Diego Center for Transplantation, Administrator of Transplant
Services for the Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, and Assistant Professor
of Clinical Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Zavala is currently
the Administrator of Vanderbilt Transplant Center, Research Assistant Professor
and Adjunct Professor of Management at Vanderbilt University.
John C. Rogers possesses over twenty-five years of experience
in Medicare and Medicaid cost report preparation as the Director
of Reimbursement for the University of California, San Diego
Medical Center. His efforts have allowed UCSD Medical Center to
realize its Medicare reimbursement opportunities in the areas of
Organ Acquisition, Resident Training (IME & GME), and
Disproportionate Share (DSH). Mr. Rogers has extensive cost
accounting experience in the transplant service-line, HLA Lab, a
hospital-based Organ Procurement Organization and Medicare
approved multi-organ Transplant Programs. His experience also
includes product-line cost accounting standards’ development and
pricing models. Mr. Rogers is a former auditor for the State of
California’s Medicaid Program. Mr. Rogers earned a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Business Administration.
Jane Benjey has more than 44 years experience in healthcare, 28
years of which have been in the field of transplantation. She
has practiced as a clinical nurse in renal transplantation at
Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and in renal, pancreas and liver
transplantation at University Hospital in Cincinnati. Currently,
she is the Accreditation Coordinator for U C University Hospital
in Cincinnati, Ohio, having responsibilities related to UNOS
data reporting, key personnel changes and policy compliance. She
has presented nationally in the areas of UNOS data compliance
and living kidney donor outcomes. She co-authored an article on
regulatory compliance, which appeared in Progress in
Transplantation.
Mary E. Cunanan possesses over thirty years experience in the
healthcare industry. She has extensive experience in operations
management, organizational effectiveness, continuous quality
improvement, clinical resource management and in the preparation
process for regulatory accreditation and certification. Ms.
Cunanan recently retired from her position as the Executive
Director of a multi-organ, multi-hospital transplant center at
the University of California, San Diego. During her tenure she
served as the Region 5 administrator on the UNOS Transplant
Administrator’s Committee and the UNOS Data Advisory Committee.
After 25 years with the University of California, she continues
to participate in and speak locally, regionally and nationally
on various aspects of healthcare and transplant management. Her
earlier healthcare management experience included leadership
roles in emergency services communications and disaster
preparedness, directorship of a large academic department of
emergency medicine, level 1 trauma center and as a lead
facilitator for a corporate performance improvement efforts.
Tracy Giacoma possesses over twenty-eight years of experience
in the field of transplantation, which includes 13 years in
administration of multi-organ programs at pediatric and adult
hospitals, and eight years in administration of a transplant
multispeciality physician practice. She worked at Riley Hospital
for Children/Indiana University/Methodist Hospital of Clarian
Health Partners for over twenty years and at Methodist Dallas
Medical Center for 8 years. She currently is the Transplant
Administrator at the University of Kansas Hospital. Her
experience includes feasibility analysis of programs, start up
of a multispeciality physician practice, start up of transplant
programs, strategic business planning, operational and
regulatory effectiveness, service line development, and
analyzing financial revenue models for best practice.
Robert L. Howey possesses over twelve years of experience in
the healthcare industry specifically with Medicare and Medicaid
cost report preparation. He is currently Manager at Mayo Clinic
in Jacksonville, Florida, and is responsible for Medicare Part A
reimbursement reporting, compliance, and education. Prior to
joining Mayo Clinic, Mr. Howey was a Manager with KPMG LLP where
he was involved in numerous consulting engagements with teaching
hospitals and multi-organ transplant programs. He has spoken at
several national conferences/workshops regarding organ
acquisition reimbursement and changes with Medicare regulations.
Mr. Howey is a licensed C.P.A. in Florida and earned his
Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North
Florida.
Barry Marshall is currently the Associate VP over Transplant
Services and Oncology for Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans,
LA. In his current role, Mr. Marshall is responsible for all
solid organ/bone marrow transplant, hepatobiliary services and
oncology services. He is also the current President of the
“Transplant Resource Center” in Louisiana. Formerly Mr. Marshall
was the Vice President of Transplant and Oncology Services at
Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. Prior to that he was
the Vice President of Clinical Business Development and
Physician Services for Methodist Healthcare System in Memphis,
TN responsible for the Transplant Institute, the Renal Care
Center, the Cancer Center, the Neuro Science Institute, the
Cardiovascular Institute, hospital business development and
physician recruitment and contracting.
Christine Marshall has worked with Transplant Management Group
since 2004. In her current role as Operations Manager, she is
responsible for the day-to-day activities including project
management of engagements, proposals, contract fulfillment,
billing, annual workshop coordination, database and website
updates and marketing. Her prior experience includes a role as
Systems Manager for a physician practice management group where
she was responsible for the System Trainers and Helpdesk, custom
report programming, system security, module enhancements and
project management of new physician groups. She earned her
Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Franklin
University in Columbus, Ohio.
Jill Martin-Boone is currently Associate Professor of Pharmacy
Practice at the University Of Cincinnati College Of Pharmacy,
with a focus on transplant outcomes research and a clinical
practice in transplantation. She is also the Director of
Transplant Outcomes at the University Hospital where she has had
extensive involvement in the quality monitoring and improvement
process, assessing resource utilization, and quality of life
measurements. Dr. Martin has presented nationally and published
in the areas of transplant economics and quality of life.
Previous to her current position, she was a Clinical Pharmacy
Specialist at the University of Cincinnati Hospital where she
practiced in the areas of transplantation, pain management, and
surgery for 15 years. She has also been active on many
international, national, state, and local committees addressing
pharmacy and outcomes issues. She is the recipient of Ohio’s
Walter A. Frazier award for outstanding, sustained service to
the profession of pharmacy and is past president of the American
Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Jackie Sneve possesses over nineteen years of health care
experience, with eleven years in the field of transplant
contracting. She worked for nine years as the head of the
National Transplant Network for Humana Inc, a Fortune 500
managed care company serving six million members. She also
worked as a transplant contractor for the University of
Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (Madison, WI) and John L Doyne
Hospital (Milwaukee, WI). Jackie currently works as Vice
President of Strategic Alliances for Surgical Review
Corporation, a non-profit agency dedicated to reviewing outcomes
of surgical procedures. Jackie’s experience includes transplant
reimbursement and rate setting, contract language terms,
contract performance analysis, negotiation strategies and
techniques, site inspection procedures, and hospital outcomes
and performance evaluation and assessment methods.
Brigitte Sullivan specializes in the integration of clinical and
financial data to support and optimize operational and business
initiatives within healthcare systems. In her role as the
Administrative Director of the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive
Transplant Center, Brigitte is responsible for management of
clinical operations, financial and billing processes, regulatory
compliance, performance improvement activities, patient and
physician outreach, and data systems. She has served on the UNOS
Transplant Administrators Committee, as well as on various local
and national panels focused on transplant cost and regulatory
issues.
Art Thomson is Administrator for the Transplant Center and
General Surgery at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He has
over twenty-five years of experience in healthcare, including
finance, management, marketing, operations, grants
administration and organ donation and procurement. Art is a
faculty member for the Transplant Growth and Management
Collaborative. He is also a past chair of the UNOS Transplant
Administrators Committee and he served as a member of the UNOS
Membership & Professional Standards Committee from 2003 to 2005.
He previously served as Board Member and Treasurer for the
Coalition on Donation. His previous positions include Director
of Marketing for the Cleveland Clinic and Assistant Director for
the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Christie B. Truscott is currently a Clinical Pharmacist in
Solid Organ Transplantation at Vanderbilt University Medical
Center and an Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy at the University of
Tennessee. She is also the Director of the PGY2 Pharmacy
Residency in Transplantation at Vanderbilt University Medical
Center. She received her Pharm.D. from the University of the
Sciences in Philadelphia. She completed a Pharmacy Practice
Residency with an Emphasis in Managed Care at Vanderbilt
University Medical Center, and a Specialty Residency in Solid
Organ Transplantation at the University of Utah Hospitals and
Clinics. Her teaching and patient care activities focus on Solid
Organ Transplantation including liver, renal, pancreas, heart,
lung and pediatrics. At Vanderbilt University Medical Center she
has had extensive involvement in Evidence Based Medicine and has
worked with the State of Tennessee to ensure coverage for
transplant recipients. She has been published in the American
Journal of Transplantation and has presented nationally.
Colleen Wilson possesses over forty years experience in the
healthcare industry, which includes twenty years as a Transplant
Administrator. Colleen’s non-transplant experience included
development and management of outpatient clinics and nursing
units with responsibility for consolidation, management and
reorganization as well. She also has extensive experience in a
multi-hospital Information Systems Department with
responsibility for the automation and integration of all
hospital departments including nursing. For the past twenty
years she has been involved in multi-organ transplant programs.
She was the Director of Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Transplant
Programs in Denver for eight years. For the past twelve years
she has been the Transplant Program Administrator at Jewish
Hospital, Louisville, KY. Her responsibilities included the
development and management of the CHF Program, the VAD Program
and the Transplant Outpatient Clinics. Also she was instrumental
in the development of the clinical component of the Jewish
Hospital/University of Louisville Hand Transplant Program which
to date has performed three successful hand transplants. In the
past, Colleen served on the UNOS Finance Committee and as the
representative for Region 8 on the Ad Hoc UNOS Transplant
Administrators Committee.
